1. Acceptance of these terms
By accessing or using Is My Vet Bill Normal (the “Service”) — including the website, any related Reddit bot, and any associated tools — you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use. If you don't agree, please don't use the Service.
These terms apply together with our Privacy Policy.
2. What this Service is (and isn’t)
The Service is a free, community-run tool that aggregates anonymized vet-invoice data so pet owners can see how their bills compare to what others have paid. It is an informational tool only.
The Service is not, and is not a substitute for:
- professional veterinary advice, diagnosis, or treatment;
- financial, accounting, or insurance advice;
- legal advice;
- a binding price quote from any veterinary clinic;
- a guarantee of accuracy, completeness, or availability of any data shown.
Always consult your veterinarian about your pet's health and care decisions.
3. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. By using it, you represent that you meet this requirement and that you have the legal capacity to agree to these terms.
4. User submissions
The Service lets you upload vet invoices, optional pet information (species, breed, size), and an optional contributor name. By submitting any of this content (“User Content”), you represent and warrant that:
- The bill belongs to you, or you otherwise have the right to share it for the purposes described in our Privacy Policy.
- You have the right to grant the license below, and your submission does not infringe anyone else's rights.
- The contributor name you provide (if any) is something you have the right to use — don't impersonate other people, brands, or public figures.
License you grant us. You grant Is My Vet Bill Normal a worldwide, royalty-free, perpetual, irrevocable, non-exclusive license to use, store, process, anonymize, aggregate, and display the User Content for the purpose of operating and improving the Service — including showing aggregated statistics, displaying your optional contributor name on the wall of thanks, and using anonymized line items to power public price comparisons. We will never license, sell, or share your data with third parties for advertising, AI training, or monetization (see Privacy Policy, Section 6).
You retain ownership of your User Content. You can request removal of contributed data at any time via the procedure in our Privacy Policy.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- use the Service in violation of any applicable law, regulation, or third-party right;
- upload content that isn't yours (or that you don't have permission to share);
- upload anything that contains malware, exploits, or content intended to disrupt the Service or harm users;
- attempt to re-identify any individual whose data appears in the aggregate index, or otherwise attempt to circumvent the anonymization;
- scrape, crawl, or bulk-extract data from the Service except via mechanisms we publicly offer for that purpose;
- use the Service or its data to operate a competing commercial product;
- misrepresent the Service's output as professional advice (medical, financial, or otherwise);
- interfere with or place undue load on the Service through automation, bots, or other means.
We may suspend or terminate access for any user we reasonably believe has violated these rules.
6. Service is provided “AS IS”
The Service, including all data, statistics, comparisons, recommendations, and other output, is provided “AS IS” and “AS AVAILABLE” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, to the maximum extent permitted by applicable law.
We specifically disclaim:
- any warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement;
- any warranty that the data is accurate, complete, current, or reliable;
- any warranty that the Service will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free;
- any warranty that defects will be corrected or that the Service is free of viruses or other harmful components.
Vet pricing varies for many legitimate reasons — including case complexity, regional cost differences, and clinic specialization. Our comparisons describe what other owners have paid; they are not a verdict on whether a particular bill is correct.
7. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Is My Vet Bill Normal, its maintainers, contributors, and operators (collectively, “we”) shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, revenue, data, goodwill, or other intangible losses arising out of or related to your use of the Service — even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.
In no event shall our total cumulative liability to you for any claim arising out of or relating to the Service exceed the amount you paid us in the twelve months preceding the claim. Because the Service is free of charge, this amount is zero in most cases — except where applicable law requires otherwise.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain damages — in those jurisdictions, the limitations above apply to the fullest extent permitted by law.
8. Indemnification
You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless the maintainers and operators of the Service from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of or in any way connected with: (a) your access to or use of the Service; (b) your User Content; (c) your violation of these Terms; or (d) your violation of any third-party right, including intellectual property or privacy rights.
9. Intellectual property
The Service's design, code, copy, branding, and aggregated index (other than individual User Content) are the property of Is My Vet Bill Normal and its contributors. You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, or lease any part of the Service or its content without permission, except as expressly allowed by these terms or applicable law.
If you believe content on the Service infringes a copyright you own, contact the operators using the contact mechanism listed in Section 15 with the details required to identify the work, the allegedly infringing material, and your authority to act. We will review valid notices and take appropriate action.
10. Changes to the Service
We may modify, suspend, or discontinue the Service (or any feature) at any time without notice. Some features are still in development and may change or be removed. We are not liable to you or any third party for any modification, suspension, or discontinuation of the Service.
11. Termination
We may terminate or suspend access to the Service at any time, for any reason — including violation of these Terms — without prior notice. You may stop using the Service at any time; that's the only termination action available to most users since accounts are not required.
Sections 4 (license you grant us, retained for previously contributed anonymized data), 6 (disclaimers), 7 (limitation of liability), 8 (indemnification), 9 (IP), 12 (governing law), and 14 (general) survive any termination.
12. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the applicable state law of the operator's principal place of business, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. The United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods does not apply.
Before filing any formal claim, you agree to first attempt informal resolution by contacting us through the channel listed in Section 15 with a description of the dispute. The parties agree to negotiate in good faith for at least 30 days before pursuing any other remedy.
13. Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page is your indicator. Continued use of the Service after the date listed means you accept the updated Terms.
14. General
- Entire agreement. These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, are the entire agreement between you and us with respect to the Service.
- Severability. If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, the remainder will continue in full force and effect.
- No waiver. Failure to enforce any provision is not a waiver of that provision.
- No partnership. Nothing here creates a partnership, joint venture, employment, or agency relationship between you and us.
- Assignment. You may not assign these Terms without our written consent. We may assign them (for example, in connection with a transfer of the project to a successor steward).
